A raw and unapologetic alpine landscape informs this hillside home by Wanaka based Assembly Architects. Local schist & concrete foundation walls ground the dwelling into the slope, extending to defined terraces.
Rammed earth walls and glazed panes wrap the form, topped with textured Corten roof. These external materials extend into the interior space creating beautiful and textural backgrounds to the refined interior decor.
Inside, the textural material palette is highlighted by Nightworks' Petrine range, its golden flash of symmetrical brass elements juxtaposing the moody interior. Used throughout the space in pendant and wall lights, it offers a simple but incredibly effective method of adding a sculptural yet practical element.
This project is a winner of the Te Kahui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Southern Award 2022 in the Housing Category.
